Director of Human Resources
Talent Vision, a Staffing and Consulting Firm, is partnering with a distinguished charter school in Rochester, NY, to recruit a dedicated Director of Human Resources. This leadership role combines strategic HR oversight with hands-on partnership across school operations to build and sustain a high-performing, equitable, and student-centered workforce. The Director of Human Resources will design and implement human capital strategies, manage talent acquisition and retention, ensure compliance with employment and labor regulations, and foster a collaborative culture that supports staff development and student success.
Core Responsibilities of the Director of Human Resources
Develop and execute comprehensive HR strategies aligned with the school’s mission, including workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.
Lead full-cycle recruitment for certified and classified staff: create job postings, coordinate interviews, manage candidate pipelines, and oversee background checks and credential verification.
Oversee employee relations, offering guidance and coaching to school leadership and staff on performance management, conflict resolution, and professional conduct.
Administer compensation and benefits programs; partner with finance to ensure accurate payroll processing and equitable salary practices.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and district or charter policies; maintain accurate personnel records and reporting.
Design and implement performance evaluation systems for certificated and support staff, provide training on observation and feedback protocols, and support performance improvement plans when needed.
Coordinate professional learning and leadership development programs that build instructional capacity and support career pathways for staff.
Manage employee leaves, accommodations, and return-to-work processes in partnership with benefits providers and medical professionals as appropriate.
Partner with school leadership to advance an inclusive, culturally responsive workplace that promotes equity, staff wellbeing, and retention of diverse talent.
Analyze HR metrics and produce regular reports on staffing, turnover, recruitment effectiveness, and other key indicators to inform strategic decision-making.
Serve as a trusted member of the school’s leadership team, participating in policy development, strategic planning, and community engagement efforts.
Qualifications Needed for the Role
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education Leadership, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of five years of progressive HR experience, including at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role; experience in K–12 education or charter school settings strongly preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and HR compliance.
Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, special education staffing requirements, and applicable collective bargaining or employment agreements.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills; ability to build trusting relationships with staff, families, and external partners.
Data-driven mindset with experience using HR information systems and preparing actionable reports from HR metrics.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
Commitment to equity, culturally responsive practices, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Familiarity with benefits administration, payroll practices, and employee leave processes.
SHRM, PHR, SPHR, or similar HR certification is a plus.
